I use Mac exclusively. I’ve found that Zapptek’s “Legend Maker” does a great job for a truly affordable price. The app comes with user-friendly instructions and writing HTML isn’t necessary. The price? $50. DIY.
Interesting. Thanks for letting Mac users know about that! I looked it up, and it looks like we PCers can’t use it. That’s too bad, too, because it looks like an amazing program. Thanks for sharing!
I wish I had the money, but I don’t, so I do it myself. I wish I didn’t have to, but I have no choice. I simply do the best job I can based on my ‘how-to-do-it’ research and I hope it’s professional enough. For print, I used word, then made a PDF file. It wasn’t difficult because I wasn’t trying to be fancy.
All good points. Sometimes, we just have to do it ourselves. There’s plenty of information out there for patient indies, so good for you for doing your research.
If you are going to do it yourself, do your research! Just like doing research for your writing or your marketing or any other aspect of your book. You want your book to look as professional as possible, so know what makes a good format. Don’t use type that is too big or too small, or not enough line spacing, or fonts that are inappropriate (like Times or Times New Roman), or default margins. Know where to put page numbers and what to have in running heads. Some book formatters will answer questions. (But most professionals will warn you that Word is NOT a page layout program.)
